I have been following Northwoods Bass Fishing Adventures on Instagram for about a year, finally made a trip up here and was not disappointed... caught 3 fish over 20" and some other quality smallmouth, one was probably my PB. My girlfriend even got one over 20"... usually on a guided trip it never lives up to the expectation but this was the best smallmouth trip I've ever had and I am a die hard smallmouth fisherman! Thank you again Andrew!
We are avid spin and fly anglers and my wife Pat and I just fished two days with Andrew. I love smallmouth bass and I wanted to learn more about finding these fish, understanding their movements during the year and about different smallmouth fishing techniques. Wow! were we impressed! I went to smallmouth school for two days. I learned more in those two days than I learned on my own in 20 years. Andrew has a comprehensive knowledge of these fish and how to catch them. In two days we covered many different lake types and many different lures and presentation techniques. And we also caught plenty of bass despite very difficult weather conditions. My wife lost a huge fish at the net. Andrew knows these lakes incredibly well and can plan a trip based on weather and water conditions and then match these factors to lake type. He will keep anglers on fish all day long. He is the hardest working guide I have ever fished with in 30 years of fly and spin fishing in salt and fresh in the US and abroad. He fishes a long day and he is a pleasure to fish with….and my wife liked him too! Thanks Andrew! We will book our days for next year soon.
My friend and I were looking to learn some Vilas County lakes for smallmouth fishing around Labor Day weekend. Andrew offered us the option to split our time between an "action" lake and one with more trophy potential. On the action lake, we learned several key spots and learned some new techniques for rigging stick baits. I hooked an extremely fat specimen that was regarded as one of the largest he'd seen on that lake. We then went over to the trophy lake, and while the bite was understandably slower, we did hook into some large fish (which we were unable to land). We learned some new spots for the future there. Andrew put in extra time on the water for us and worked very hard the whole time. I would highly recommend his guiding service.
Hi Andrew - Thanks again for the guide trip last Thursday. I had a blast, and being a muskie and walleye guy, I learned a lot about smallmouth. I really appreciate the effort you put in and information you shared. I went out on ---- Lake Sunday morning for a hour smallmouth fishing using the 5” Suicide Shad in pearly shad with a 1/2oz Kalin S jig. I fished the tip of a long sandbar extending into deep water. Small perch were being pushed to the surface in 15-19’ of water off the break line. I ended up catching 6 smallmouth 15-18”. No giants, but all really solid fish. I wouldn’t have caught those fish without the knowledge I gained from fishing with you. I will definitely book again in the future.
The half day I fished smb with Andrew, mother nature threw us a curve ball with a very tough bite early on, but the trip still turned out to be everything I was hoping it would be. That was due to Andrews’s relentless commitment in trying to find fish at many different spots …..he even had “spots on spots”. Eventually the weather became more favorable and Andrew was ready for it and had us on good fish right away. That hot bite happened as my trip time was ending but Andrew didn’t head off the lake, he had us stay until we took full advantage of it…class act!! What also made the trip priceless was Andrew’s vast bass fishing knowledge that he was very willingly to share, it helped on the day of the trip but also helped on my own in the future. This was my first fishing trip with Andrew, but it will not be my last as this will be a yearly outing for me …. Great trip, great guide, highly recommended …..
I fished with Andrew on a day where conditions were less than optimal. He decided at the onset of the trip to attack smaller area lakes due to a stiff Northeast wind. We got into fish within a few minutes. He was able to position the boat in a manner in which we fully covered the spots most likely holding fish. His Ranger is outfitted with top of the the line electronics. Many of the spots we fished were marked as way points from previous outings. I had the entire bow to myself as he operated the trolling motor from the back of the boat. If you want to learn different techniques, catch fish and have fun, I recommend a trip with Andrew. I will be booking again soon.
I had a great day fishing with Andrew. He is a real bass pro, and capitalizes on the under-fished bass population of the north woods! He put us on fish right away on the morning, and knew exactly where to go to keep the bite going all day long. Even though I am an avid bass fisherman myself, Andrew taught me the finer points of locating fish in clear water lakes as well as subtle tricks for lure presentation. He is a real professional, so book your trip early because he fills up fast. Thanks for a great day on the water, Andrew! I will see you again next year.
I took a trip up to Vilas County to fish with Northwoods Bass Fishing Adventures. To say the fishing was spectacular would be an understatement. Andrew gives you the front of the boat and full access to his graphs. Customers always fish the water first. He freely shares his knowledge and is in constant communications with other guides and fishing buddies to stay up to the minute on conditions and patterns. Everything about his rig is spot on. It is comfortable and perfectly set up for the northwoods. The effort he puts in is astounding. We were on the water by 7:00am, fished three different lakes getting off the water at 9:00pm. What you will learn from Andrew will help you be a better fisherman. A day with him will make your trip to the northwoods a fisherman’s dream. I will be back up this summer and have already booked another trip with Andrew.
What do you want from a guide? I'm sure everyone says to catch fish. With Andrew it's so much more. Along with catching quality fish he is your teacher of how, when, where, and what baits to use. Ask him anything about smallmouth bass and he'll provide the info. Smallmouth bass fishing is his passion and being on the water with him and reading his website articles shows it. We'll be definitely fishing with him again.
Andrew is a very skilled guide who works very hard to put his clients on fish. He showed me a number of techniques and was willing to share his knowledge. His boat and equipment are well maintained, he has my recommendation.
I have been following Andrew the last few years through his websites, facebook page, and articles published by Midwest Outdoors. I finally decided to hire Andrew to help me on my pre-spawn smallmouth fishing techniques and boy was I glad I did! On our trip, we nailed the fish. I had a blast catching 45 fish during our trip and learned a lot in the process from Andrew during our 9 hour trip. Andrew is very knowledgeable in this area of smallmouth fishing. When you hire Andrew, you are hiting a bass guide to take you bass fishing - rather than an ordinary multi-species guide who will take you on a side trip just to fill his schedule. I would strongly recommend using Andrew's services for an enjoyable day of bass fishing. I myself, plan on using him again in the future to learn new techniques and new lakes.
It's very refreshing to see someone just be honest about how to catch (and sometimes struggle to catch) Smallmouth bass. You’re fishing reports being honest and open, if nothing else makes me feel better about struggling to figure out how to catch Smallmouth bass on purpose. I too am hooked on Vilas and Oneida Counties Smallmouth bass fishing even thou I’m lucky to get up there once or twice a year. I really just felt compelled to write a note to thank you for telling it like it is and to keep up the good work!
I've fished with Andrew with Northwoods Bass Fishing Adventures and I am very impressed. I have fished with many guides in the past and the education and knowledge that Andrew brings is second to none. Catching fish is easy to do, but understanding why is what separates the Pro's from the Joe's, and Andrew is definitely a pro. His knowledge in every situation presented is worth every penny that you INVEST when you hire Andrew. I highly recommend this guide service for somebody who is looking to learn a ton and have fun while doing it.
I wanted to email and say thank you for posting pictures all year, and for fishing tips here and there. My in-laws bought a cottage in Vilas Co last fall, and while they all love to chase elusive muskie I fell for smallie fishing after "accidentally" catching a 5lb-er on a bucktail. What an awesome fighting fish. I grew up outside around Chicago, fishing most of the county lakes for largemouth, and have been to Ontario twice for walleye and pike outpost trips. I'm definitely hooked on smallmouth now, and am hoping to book a trip with you in the spring if my finances allow.
Just a quick note to let anyone thinking of a trip with Andrew to book it now! ….he’s a top notch guide. I recently hired a very well-known guide and got to watch him fan cast for Smallies off the front of the boat while his guests fished over the areas he already covered. Not with Andrew, he puts his guests up front and is focused on getting you some action. Let me tell you….you will fish ALL day! He teaches, shares information, and leaves you at the end of the day a better fisherman.
Andrew is willing and able to accommodate anglers of all skill-sets. Andrew has a wealth of knowledge to pass along to his customers and my parents had a great time fishing with him. I will continue to refer people to Andrew and him alone for Northwoods Bass fishing.
Productive morning fishing excursion with daughter Steph and her friend Krista, compliments to long time friend' Laura V's nephew Andrew, owner of Northwoods Bass Fishing Adventures. If you are EVER up in Minocqua / Vilas County area and want to catch the big one, this is the BEST bass guide to book with. Does great with the kids too.
Andrew loves teaching people how to fish smarter, not harder. He put in extra time with us because we were doing so well with the smallmouth bass. Our boat caught 60 bass altogether that half day. It was a great trip, worth the money. We will be back to fish with him again next spring!!!
Andrew provides a high end northern Wisconsin smallmouth fishing experience for those looking to learn new techniques and/ or lakes. Stay in the states and spend your money with a quality operation like Northwoods Bass Fishing Adventures.
